The Doctor and Romana finally devise a method to break free from the chronic hysteresis, deliberately re-enacting the loop's sequence to "throw it out of phase." Their successful escape allows them to materialize on Tigella, albeit in an unexpected jungle location, disoriented and encountering dangerous local flora. Meanwhile, Meglos, having taken the Deon oath, dismisses the Tigellans from the Power Room, claiming the procedure will be too dangerous for them. Alone with the Dodecahedron, he places his "redimensioner" on it, executing his theft. Lexa and Caris, suspicious, investigate the Power Room and discover the Dodecahedron's disappearance, confirming Meglos's betrayal. The Tigellan central control experiences a complete power failure, plunging the city into crisis. Lexa, realizing the deception, issues a city-wide command to arrest the "Time Lord." Meglos, now visibly transformed with green, spiked skin, evades the guards. Simultaneously, the real Doctor enters the city, expecting a welcome. Instead, he is immediately confronted by guards and Lexa, who accuse him of the theft. Despite his attempts to explain the time loop and Romana's impending arrival, he is arrested, becoming the scapegoat for Meglos's crime. This act resolves the protagonists' initial obstacle, but immediately thrusts them into a new, more dangerous predicament, while the antagonist achieves his primary objective.
