Act 1

The Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan, Adric, and Mace escape their initial confinement in the cellar through a cleverly disguised energy barrier, which the Doctor swiftly identifies and disarms. They proceed to explore the mysterious manor, discovering strange alien technology and the pervasive presence of soliton gas, which the Doctor identifies as crucial for the aliens' survival. Their investigation leads them to a wine cellar where they find a peculiar green contraption and cages containing rats, hinting at sinister experiments. The tension escalates dramatically when the android, cloaked and masked as 'Death', ambushes them. Mace, a highwayman, attempts to defend the group with his pistols, but the android proves impervious to his attacks. In the ensuing chaos, Tegan sustains a serious injury from the android's energy beam, falling incapacitated. The Doctor, realizing the immediate danger, instructs Nyssa to flee and Adric to tend to Tegan, while he attempts to reason with the android, warning it about the volatile nature of soliton gas. The android, however, disregards his warning and captures the injured Tegan and the bewildered Adric, transporting them through another holographic wall into a high-tech control room. This event shatters the group's cohesion, leaving the Doctor and Nyssa to regroup while Tegan and Adric become prisoners, significantly raising the stakes and establishing the immediate threat.

Act 2

Following the capture of Tegan and Adric, the Doctor explains the nature of the android and the alien control bracelets to Nyssa and Mace, revealing the sophisticated extraterrestrial threat they face. Simultaneously, in the hidden control room, the Terileptil Leader, a scaly alien with a missing eye, interrogates Tegan and Adric. The Leader demonstrates an unnerving awareness of the Doctor's origins and advanced technology, including the Tardis and his sonic device, confirming the aliens' strategic intelligence. The Doctor, now focused on rescue and defense, devises a plan to destroy the android by modifying the Tardis's sonic booster to vibrate it to pieces. However, this plan requires access to the Tardis, which is currently in the woods. Mace, overwhelmed by fear, refuses to re-enter the manor, forcing the Doctor and Nyssa to proceed without him. The Terileptil Leader, having learned of the Doctor's presence, activates controlled villagers, including a poacher, to hunt the Doctor and locate the Tardis. The Doctor, Nyssa, and Mace discover a buried alien escape pod, which provides further evidence of the invaders' presence and technology. Their investigation is cut short when the controlled villagers converge on their location, forcing a desperate escape from the pod via an emergency hatch. This sequence of events significantly escalates the conflict, revealing the scope of the alien operation and placing the Doctor and his remaining companions under direct pursuit.

Act 3

After their narrow escape from the controlled villagers, the Doctor, Nyssa, and Mace find themselves exhausted and in a precarious position. Recognizing the urgency of their situation, the Doctor strategically divides the group: he dispatches Nyssa to the Tardis to begin work on modifying the sonic booster, emphasizing the need for speed and her capabilities. Meanwhile, the Doctor and Mace set off to locate the miller, suspecting he might be another human under alien control and a potential source of information or assistance. Concurrently, Tegan and Adric, imprisoned in a bleak cellar room, initiate their own desperate escape attempt. Tegan discovers a fanlight above their door and, with Adric's help, manages to pry out the iron bars, creating an egress into the cellar passageway. Their escape is short-lived, however, as the Terileptil Leader, alerted to an intrusion, dispatches the android to intercept them. Adric successfully slips through the newly created opening and escapes into the manor, but Tegan is cornered by the android. Despite her attempt to surrender, the android shoots at the ceiling above her, and she is recaptured, highlighting the aliens' ruthless efficiency. Simultaneously, the Doctor and Mace's pursuit of the miller proves fruitless; the miller drives off, indicating he is not under alien control, thus eliminating a potential ally. The act concludes with the companions scattered and facing escalating threats: Tegan is once again a captive, Adric is on the loose within the dangerous manor, Nyssa works alone on a critical device, and the Doctor and Mace are left without a clear path forward, deepening the crisis and setting the stage for the story's ultimate confrontation.
